UPDATE! I decided to gently bring up the boyfriend hanging out. I started out by saying she is awesome, touched on how bartending is different, and she’s a breath a fresh air to customers and thanked her. I then transitioned to bf is a welcome patron and I don’t want him or her to feel like I am trying to exclude him and asked if he plans to visit longer then 30 minutes to sit elsewhere in the bar instead of right at the bar. I asked if that seemed reasonable and maybe they could come up with something that works better for them. Then I let her know it’s currently not an issue and a preventative measure for customer service. I told her I hope she understands and thanked her for listening to me.

SHE IS A GEM! Her response was that she totally understands, she knew the expectation, it’s not an issue and she ALREADY talked to him about it and told him it was a bit much. So yeah. It couldn’t have gone better. Thank you everyone who didn’t twist my perspective on the situation and were actually helpful. Also thank you to everyone that was not just plain old mean.
