We run a business in a tourist-heavy area in Canada, and we deal with a lot of international visitors, often in large groups. Lately, we’ve had a recurring issue: groups of 5 to 10 people coming in, asking for group discounts. When we say no, they threaten to leave bad reviews.
This past weekend, one group left nine 1-star Google reviews after we wouldn’t give each of them $50 off. They didn’t really complain about our service, just that we wouldn’t negotiate.
This happens more than you’d think, and it’s hurting our online presence. Has anyone here dealt with this kind of review blackmail before? How do you respond, either publicly or behind the scenes?
Would appreciate any advice.
