I have a part-timer who I’ve decided to fire. She is told to do A, B, C but does X, Y, Z or forgets certain tasks. Constantly sitting down during her shift when she’s supposed to be behind the register. Has an attitude with other employees and was caught stealing once. I talked to her and gave her another chance. She was doing well for a few weeks but now went back to her old ways. The final straw was when I caught her stealing again.
This weekend is her prom so I decided I would let her go the day after just to be nice. She lives an hour away and I don’t want her driving all the way here just to hear she’s getting fired. I was going to send her an email explaining that we’re letting her go and the reason for doing so but I’m not sure if that’s the most professional route.
Should I call her, have her drive an hour and talk to her in person, or send her an email?
Right now she’s blowing up my phone via text asking why she isn’t on schedule.
