My partner is half White and half Mexican, but when you first see him, you might think he’s Native American. He’s honestly one of the sweetest, kindest, and most genuine people you could ever meet. So polite, caring, and always going out of his way to make our customers happy.
But I’ve noticed some customers treat him with suspicion or even rudeness, as if he’s not trustworthy. We’ve even had a couple of people ask to speak with me instead of him (I look White), and one customer actually called me and asked, “Hey, is this guy trustworthy?” WTF? It breaks my heart to see him treated that way.
Now, you might say, “Well, you’re a woman and he’s a man, maybe that’s why,” but we had another guy working with us for a while (who’s White), and the difference in how customers treat them is unbelievable. They even tipped the other guy more.
Even though my partner never complains, I can tell it gets to him. He deserves nothing but love and respect. He literally puts everyone’s happiness above his own. He’s the first person all his friends call when they’re in trouble because they know he’ll show up and help, no questions asked. Shame on these people!
Edit: I forgot to mention that most of our customers are primarily white and over 40 years old. We run a boat rental business.
