Howdy everyone, I’ve owned a business for almost 10 years now in the industrial parts replacement industry. We support other businesses with industrial equipment with new and rebuilt parts and service. The vast majority of our parts come from China and India. All out our democratic suppliers also have plants overseas. We were hit with the 25% tariff back in 2018 and raised prices but now we are looking at 20% more on China, potentially 25% on the auto parts tariff depending on how they classify it and then any reciprocal tariffs on India/China. We could be looking at 85% tariffs. Unfortunately there is almost zero domestic production as an alternative.
We have already raised prices but customers are approaching a tap out point. Our manufacturers have helped some but they are at their break-even points too. We are expecting for layoffs and that’s hard for me because I care about all of my employees and really have made the effort to pay people well and treat everyone like family. Not sure what we are going to do to survive.
How will Trump’s tariffs affect your business and how are you planning on weathering the storm?
