I avoided cold email for months because it felt like begging for work or whatever. Thought clients were supposed to find me somehow.
Yeah that wasn’t happening.
Finally got desperate and made a list of local businesses. Started going through their websites one by one looking for broken stuff. Contact forms that didn’t work, sites that looked like garbage on phones, booking systems that threw errors.
Checked maybe 47 sites total before I found problems worth emailing about on 15 of them.
Sent short emails. “Hey your contact form is broken, probably losing you customers, I can fix it this week if you want.”
First 12 got nothing. Then three replied in two days. Two hired me.
Fixed a gym’s booking system and helped a shop get their checkout working properly on mobile. Both were losing sales because of it and had no idea.
Whole thing took about a week between finding the leads and finishing the work.
Honestly the most annoying part is realizing I wasted 3 months avoiding this because I thought it would be awkward or wouldn’t work.
