​Two Hourly Employees Off For Memorial Day, do I pay them?

So I just started my small business and I have 2 hourly employees right now who are doing a great job. They had off today for Memorial Day, do I pay them for this day off? Or since they are hourly are they expected to not be paid since they didn’t work. My goal is to move them to salary in about 5 months so at that point they would have holidays off paid.
