My parents own a small but nice teriyaki restaurant. Once they get their green card we′re considering to transfer the business over to me or maybe sell it to get another business(Preferably a pho restaurant since I have a passion for that). The question is, what′s the ideal amount of work one would put towards a small business like this? Currently my parents work 72+ hours a week. They leave the house at 8am and comes back home at 10:30 or 11pm, Mon-Sat. They do this because they don′t trust anyone else to let the business run unattended by them. My aunt however, has a different idea. She′s done many businesses before and is currently doing one as well. Gas stations, groceries, hotels, etc.. She claims the owner shouldn’t have to be attached to the business 24/7 and it′s a straight path to ruin your health and burn yourself out. She only drops into her businesses once every 2-3 days to do minor chores. I know the type of business she′s handling is drastically different from ours, but she still insists this level of dedication isn′t necessary. So I′d like to hear from small business owners(preferably small restaurant owners) how much time they invest in your business.
