Hey guys,
I’m currently a masters student studying to become a Registered Dietitian (RD), and I have voiced my plans to want to start my own practice so I can have more control over my life as opposed to having a fixed schedule and income etc. furthermore, the only way to have a good income as a RD is only possible with private practice as hospitals don’t pay RDs much because they aren’t money makers for the hospital.
When I say I will start my own private practice my starts degrading the fuck out of me. She will tell me how it’s not possible and tbst it’s a terrible idea. Then she will tell me you need to invest money to start a business as if I don’t already know this. Then I will tell her that I’m aware of this and she will tell me that investing in your own business is a bad idea. Then she will start telling me how I will be a bad RD and that nobody will want to use me.
Then, we always end up at the same point where she says I need to just forget private practice and just “go get a job”. Is this type of behavior normal to hear from friends and family when someone has aspirations to be a business owner, and why do people immediately go after people who want to own their own business?
