Ideas into Reality
Hello everyone, just to be clear I’m not some money-hungry guy who feels the need to snatch up every dollar he can but at the same time understand that I have a business to run and bills to pay. But this conversation started the other week when I was talking to a few of my SEO buddies about this client I’ve been working with over the last 6 months. He runs an online E-commerce store that sells things like bongs, cbd gummies, and all of that good stuff. I met him on Facebook actually and he came to me exclaiming how he has a really solid brand, but none of his sales come from online searches but rather just paid ads and he wanted to find other avenues to bring in some revenue for his business and he was willing to give SEO a try.
Cool, we spoke for a little longer about expectations of SEO taking about 6-8 months to really hit full effect and eventually agreed to a budget of about $1000 a month which will cover everything from on-page and off-page SEO to technical and GMB work if needed. I won’t drag on all the details but months 1-3 go on and we are crushing this campaign because I don’t know if you guys know anything about Google but stuff that is 18+ like porn, cannabis, and so on has millions of searches but very little competition because businesses like Walmart and Amazon like to keep their hands free of it. It got to the point where he went from maybe $100 in revenue from organic search to well over $10,000 in revenue monthly if not more and when I spoke of this success to my buddies they said “Hey man you should up your rates since things are going so well”…..
Now listen like I said I’m not that money-grabbing guy, and I exclaimed to them this situation because had the campaign not excelled this quickly or not at all it’s not like I would ask the guy to lower his rates so I just don’t find it fair to ask him to raise them considering things went well. They gave me a little sh*t about it saying I didn’t know what I was doing or that this is what they do with their clients and eventually I just said I appreciate the advice and I’ll think about it. Truthfully Im fine with the partnership we have right now and it’s only month 4 so maybe in a year or so I’ll discuss it with him but should I ask him to raise his monthly payment? What do you guys think?
