I used to get tons of calls from yelp. And it was horrible. If you engaged in the conversation at all and pushed back they would make you feel like an idiot for not using their services. And if you tried to dodge their calls, they would just keep calling non-stop anyway.
How did I make the calls stop entirely? I remembered back in my sales cold calling days, that whatever you did, you stayed in your lane and didn’t mess with anyone else’s leads or sales. So I took that angle, and decided to pretend that the sale was already won.
A week later a yelp guy called, here was my response: “Why are you calling me? I just spoke with Sean at Yelp literally yesterday. We had a great call and we are about to start running ads. Is something wrong? Why isn’t Sean the one calling me?”
And then he fumbled, apologized, and got off the phone.
It happened twice more in the next two years, and it went the same way each time. I think eventually they flagged my account as just being someone else’s lead that they couldn’t sort out.
Anyway, my two cents on dealing with them.
