Ideas into Reality
Now before I jump into my question here, I want to say I don’t think anybody is lesser based on their race, religion, or sex and no matter what you are I wish the best for you; however, something I’ve noticed is that many times or at least in my short experience many people draw these connections naturally towards people of the same race religion or sex and are more likely to do business with them. Am I wrong? Let me give you two examples from my own life because maybe its just me.
The other day I spoke with a potential client who was interested in SEO, now he confessed to me that he had two last candidates a lady who was highly qualified and a much bigger agency than myself, and obviously me a one-man team who has ranked some sites in the top 3 of Google before but in the grand scheme of things is just getting started out. Now we spoke about the process, what he’s looking for, and all the SEO stuff he would be looking forward to in the coming months before kinda shooting the sh*t and talking about life, sports, and kinda just leading off into another direction. Now I won’t say these topics are mutually exclusive to guys but I will say they tend to be common amongst 80-90% of the guys I speak with and upon choosing my service he basically told me almost everything was the same as far as the scope of work and pricing (in fact I may have even been a little more expensive); however, he felt he could relate to me more based on our conversation thus he decided to give me a try which don’t get me wrong I’m very grateful for.
Now the first example may not be the best one because you know there are girls and guys who can have those genuine conversations I just feel it flows more naturally among people of your own gender, race, and religion because you more often than not have something to relate to. However, a more prevalent example would be when I was a kid trying to get a job at a Romanian center. Now I’m not Romanian but I found out about the job through a buddy of mine who worked there and got amazinnnnngg tips for our age I’m talking hundreds and hundreds of dollars a night. Well me and another buddy of mine (he’s Romanian) decided to apply, long story short I was way more qualified with actual experience as a server while this was my buddies first ever job and they gave it to him. Now you could say maybe they just saw something in him, but upon hearing the news they essentially pulled him aside and told him that was the case that he was romanian and they wanted to keep the money within the community which hey good for him.
Essentially it makes me wonder how much of this business world really is connected to race, religion, and sex? what do you guys think?
