My husbands parents own a piece of property about 70 acres total. Currently it is a poorly ran and maintained business for people to come ride their dirt bikes, atv and sxs. My husband and I are tossing around the idea of buying the land/business in hopes to turn it around.

While it’s not huge it beats having to drive 2-3 hours to go anywhere else if you’re just looking for a quick trip. The trails are extremely overgrown and trees and limbs down all over. Some trails are closed because you simply cannot get through them at all or some other issue my FIL as decided not to take care of and just closed them totally. The motocross track use to be great but over the years has also become a mess but still rideable. It’s not much but it’s something. Despite it being poorly maintained and his very very poor customer service and bad attitude, he still gets customers every weekend. His dad has ran so many people off and put a bad tase in their mouth. Mostly for the way he’s treated them but also for letting the place go. I can’t tell you how many people i’ve heard say they would come back if his dad wasn’t involved and it was maintained like it should be.

The way we see it if we gave ourselves lets say a year or even two to get the trails cleaned up and track fixed and provide better customer service we could make this place be what it used to be or better. Our plan would be to do a lease on the property to start and hopefully get it turned around. We would never have to close down to do the clean up or anything like that so we can still bring money in while trying to do this. If we are successful purchase the property and keep moving forward with our business. If we can’t make it work then turn it back over to his dad and call it a wash and move on with life. My husband would keep working his job to make sure all of our normal bills are paid so that’s not a worry on our end. We have several friends and current customers who would come out and help with the clean up process so they had a better place to ride as well.

Are we crazy for wanting to do this?
