I resigned from my 9-5 to focus on my business, but my employer asked me to stay

For the past 3 years, my side hustle has been earning more than my 9-5 job. I’ve been enjoying the dual income to pay off debts and save up money. But I am in my 40s and no longer have the stamina to keep working two full-time jobs. My mental and physical health have taken a hit. I want to get my health back on track.

I finally put in my 2 weeks notice. I didn’t tell them about my side hustle.

I was surprised when they asked what they could do to get me to stay, such as a reduced schedule. I’m in middle management, so I’m pretty sure I would still have the same amount of work regardless of the schedule. I would never agree to that.

But now I’m considering if I should ask for something else. I know it would put me on “the list” as a likely candidate for future layoffs, but would it be so bad to push for a raise and then a receive a severance whenever I do get laid off?

This job is the end of my corporate career, so I really don’t care about advancing titles, development opportunities, etc. The job lets me work remote full-time which is why I held onto it for so long.

What would you do if you were in my shoes?
