I’m a logo designer. I’ve always gotten solid praise for my work, clean, thoughtful, and actually not stolen from Pinterest. I hit deadlines, I communicate like an adult, and I actually give a damn. So when I quit my job to go solo, I figured, sure, this’ll be tough, but my portfolio should do most of the heavy lifting. Nope. I called up friends, handed out cards, did all the stuff you’re supposed to do. And still, the silence was loud. I’ve just now started getting a client or two, even got a referral, but yeah, it’s slow. Turns out being one of the best doesn’t automatically mean people come knocking. Just got a client and a referral recently, which is great, but man, it’s an uphill climb. A slow one. In the rain. Wearing socks. But hey, I’m not giving up that easy. I didn’t come this far just to post about how hard it is, I’m in it. Let’s see where it goes. How do you stay motivated when the work is solid but the pipeline is dry?
