I’m an electrician and at the end of June, my company ran an emergency service call for a gas station.
They wrote a check for $1,850.00 post-dated by a year and I didn’t catch it. When I went to deposit the teller didn’t catch it and deposited it. The next day the check bounced for NSF and I was charged $35.00 for the fee. The bank told me they were not going to try to reprocess it as they believed the writer of the check was trying to commit fraud with this check.
So I called the customer with plans of contacting the police and my attorney. The customer first tried to tell me that he was certain it processed but then he eventually just paid me via PayPal. Fast forward to now, he has been calling my office staff demanding a refund claiming that his check went through a few weeks later. I did call our bank to see if the check somehow went through and it didn’t. He claims he’s going to file a PayPal buyer protection claim if we do not cut him a check immediately.
How should I proceed?
