Backstory:

I made the decision to quit my full-time job back in June 2023 at 28, to chase this dream I had ever since I was still a business student, chasing assignment deadlines, in my small university dorm room.

Which is to build something of my own. A business. An agency.

(PFFTT! Generic, I know. But uni-days-me was really interested in the concepts, ideas, the little intricacies of marketing when marketing was first introduced to me in classes.)

Quitting my job at 28 was truly a big decision for me because;

I was in a lead position and was getting fairly decent pay at my full-time job. Resigning to build a business full-time meant I was putting myself at risk of not having a similar level of pay for god knows how long. Being raised by low to medium working-class parents, starting a business never crossed the family’s mind as it was never a great or right decision to make. Just the overall fear and crippling anxiety of falling behind in life if things don’t work out.

But, I decided to LIVE for once.

Hey, memento mori, amirite lolol.

At that time, the plan was to just give myself 6 months (that’s how long my emergency savings can last me).

If I run dry, I’ll just return to the workforce. BUT if I’m able to hit certain goals I’ve set for myself, we’ll push forward and see where this brings us.

Fast forward to a year later,

though I’m still nowhere close to where I’d like to be but, here we are!

Worked with close to 30 clients globally. Avg monthly take-home pay is still slightly below my full-time pay, but I did not have to touch a penny of my emergency fund, and that is a small win for me! Building and LIVING in the life of what could have been merely a dream to uni days me.

There are some ups, DEFINITELY lots of downs, but I never really thought I’d get to this point.

And I’m worried I might forget the experience or journey I had in the process when I’m 30, 40 or 50.

So I decided to journal down my journey and at the same time by sharing this on Reddit, hopefully, be able to help out anyone who is also on the journey of building something.

I’m still fairly new to building a business and sharing my journey, so I’d also be grateful if I could get any suggestions, for whichever it may be.
