Hello, I’m looking for some advice on a weird situation.

I own a catering and meal prep food business. Whenever we have extra food we’ve been donating to a local non-profit that we thought was used for one of their community programs. Today we discovered they were selling the food we donated. It was on an app where people buy mystery bags of food for a set price. We sent in an employee to buy a plate, and the entire meal was food we donated yesterday!

On one hand, we donated the food without any expectations on how they used it. On the other hand, the non profit is run by a family and I know they pay themselves a salary (confirmed in a previous unrelated conversation). I can’t help shake the feeling my donations are going more towards the bottom line than helping people in my community.

My business partner thinks this isn’t a big deal as the money is still going to support the non-profit. I think it was shady they didn’t communicate they wanted to sell the food. They haven’t made a single mention of us donating food on any social media. At the very least they could have been promoting us to the community just as we’ve been promoting them.

Any advice on how you would handle this will be appreciated. We won’t be donating to them moving forward, but should I take any more action or just move on? TIA
