Been running a small repair shop for over 10 years and as with any small business you have fears of what could happen from an employee getting hurt to someone suing you.

I have my bank accounts set up to send me alerts such as if my balance is above or below certain amounts.

Just about every morning I get an alert. So a few days ago I get an alert saying my account was above $6000 which is normal for this account. Later that day around 1pm I get an alert that says my account is BELOW $6000 and I open it and it says I have -$483.00!

What the hell!!

I open my account and see a huge withdrawal for $7500.00 and showing it as a check transaction. The check number I literally still had in my checkbook. So I called my bank and told them I did not authorize this withdrawal.

So for the rest of the damn day I am stressed the fuck out as that was payroll money!! They closed the account and said someone would call in a day to set up a new one. And the will investigate. So I am thinking am I screwed!!

So by the next morning the money was back in my account! What a relief. My bank is Wells Fargo if that makes a difference.

So with all this said I highly advise to set up ALERTS on all your business accounts. I do not know how they got my bank and routing info but I will make sure to keep my checks more secure if that is how they got the info.

What advice would you have to avoid this happening to me or others in the future??

PS – We do not accept checks …like ever! Cash, card, Zelle, Square. I write one check a month for rent and occasional paycheck if direct deposit is not working.
